A photo opportunity that has been in the back on my mind since the beginning of 2021, finally came into fruition last month.
I was blown away by the dramatic views from this raw alpine perspective when I first visited Sefton Bivvy in January 2021.
I managed to bag some decent photos on that trip too, but I still had this idea eating away at the back of my mind that I needed to go back & shoot the view again while the Milky Way core is rising over the Mount Cook range.
Fortunately the weather delivered the goods over a year later when I finally had an opportunity to get this one in the bag too.
Centre frame is our home galaxy, the Milky Way, a spiral disc of over 200 Billion stars, one hundred thousand light-years in diameter, rising behind Mount Wakefield.
Hooker Lake is lower left & Mueller Lake is lower right, with Mount Cook Village shining away at the far right of the frame along with a faint red Aurora on the southern horizon.
