NZ Fun fact 🇳🇿: New Zealand has the largest ‘Gold tier’ international Dark Sky Reserve in the world! @aorakimackenziedarksky ✨
Check out this super exciting podcast with Joseph Pooley – Owner/Operator of his very own Astro-Tourism company, Alpha Crux – Astrophotography and Stargazing Tours (https://alphacrux.co.nz/) offering bespoke Astro-Tourism tours and Tuition in Lake Tekapo, NZ, considered the epi-centre for Astrophotography. How it started? In Jo’s words – “Sometimes, you just gotta take a leap of faith.”
Jo also sells STUNNING Astrophotography prints (beautiful gifts!), featured across various hotels and places in NZ, which we can find at www.josephpooleyphoto.co.nz
Why is Astro-Tourism pioneering, and important? Stars carry cultural significance shared across many cultures. Through Jo I learn that NZ has some of the clearest skies, and is actually the first in the world to receive ‘Gold status’ in dark sky conservation – a huge nod to the amount of artificial light regulation that takes place to maintain this.
Artificial light can have negative impacts beyond humans, like to the breeding and migration patterns of some animals, so kudos to Aoraki Mackenzie region for helping NZ preserve our dark skies, to share with the world 🤗
Join me as we converse on Jo’s journey leaving his 9-5 to pursue an entrepreneurial journey into Astro-Tourism, insight into the production of his astrophotography prints, and more! For any photography enthusiasts, aspiring entrepreneurs, tourists or keen learners – let’s tune in! @alphacruxstargazing @j.pooley.world.photo
